We don't need no stinkin' badges! My day job also requires the use of badges. These badges are good because the first name of the person (and picture) are printed on the front. The name is in LARGE letters so that people can read the name from quite a distance. The two types of badges, one for security (you gotta have one to gain entrance) and one for convenience (so that everyone who can read will know your name) are hard to keep up with (if I forget the security one you cannot gain entrance to my job) but helpful.

I'm all for being helpful but against being exclusionary. Maybe badges are not all bad, but they can become a status symbol (with some having them and some not having them). We need to be careful that the exclusionary side of badges is not the face our church will show the world.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10326675.post-35584130993911186192009-06-30T12:45:38.289-04:002009-06-30T12:45:38.289-04:00"We can think of the scriptures read as a bad..."We can think of the scriptures read as a badge of fidelity to God's Word (which is outwardly and visibly signed in the writings, but inwardly and spiritually ingested in our incorporation in Christ Jesus.)"

I love your sentence concerning the Bible. Not only moving from outward sign to inward grace, this ingesting of Scripture also leads back outwardly to a changed life (your "incorporation in Christ Jesus"). My Evangelical heritage appreciates your phrasing.Blogger!https://www.blogger.com/profile/00432856992227882496noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10326675.post-53177171352680956042009-06-30T07:31:09.587-04:002009-06-30T07:31:09.587-04:00And don't forget that the Monkeys used it in o...And don't forget that the Monkeys used it in one of their parodies also.Marcnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10326675.post-6477548177674961152009-06-29T21:16:17.507-04:002009-06-29T21:16:17.507-04:00Mark--

Surely you know the original reference, from The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, 1948, with Humphrey Bogart and Walter Huston, and this memorable piece of dialogue:

"Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges. I don't have to show you any stinking badges."

All films made after 1960 are merely compilations of earlier ones.

Perhaps Blazing Saddles is the Youtube you want, though?Christopher (P.)noreply@blogger.com
