On the matter of gifts, in Maori and other Pacific cultures, gifts never become the inalienable property of the recipient, but rather an ongoing token of the relationship marked in their passing from one to another. Under certain circumstances it is expected that they will be returned.

People are often regarded as gifts in the same way - a new appointee will arrive in a parish, for instance, accompanied by a delegation from their home patch who not only affirm the value of what the parish is getting but also give a warning that if their treasured one is not treated well the delegation will return to bring them home.

All of which is obviously about the central importance of enduring relationships. Like the one between ACANZP and TEC, for instance!Howard Pilgrimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11822571103485207143noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10326675.post-13788886464117653372010-05-12T19:14:30.794-04:002010-05-12T19:14:30.794-04:00Perhaps as one of the three Archbishops of the Ang...Perhaps as one of the three Archbishops of the Anglican Church of Aotearoa, New Zealand and the Pacific, one day +Winston will serve as primate and his voice will be heard at Primates Meeting. He will assuredly extend a hand of peace and true Christianity to the primates of the Global South, but he will vehemently oppose their unchristian homophobia towards GLBT folks.

Moana Waves: Oceania and HomosexualityBrother Davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06333089314994730330noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10326675.post-42048181816546194702010-05-12T16:55:18.884-04:002010-05-12T16:55:18.884-04:00Hello from ACANZP’s General Synod!
Our Electoral ...Hello from ACANZP’s General Synod!

Our Electoral Colleges are our Diocesan Synods meeting for the purpose of making a nomination for bishop to be confirmed by the wider church, with a couple of minor differences. The College is chaired by a bishop from another diocese, and the following are excluded from presence or participation: the public, and clergy not holding a bishop’s licence. (The latter, if they have ‘Permission to Officiate’ may speak but not vote in ordinary diocesan synod sessions). Our synods always include lay representation from parishes, according to local rules set by the synods. That means at least one person per parish, but in some dioceses it is as many as three persons per parish.Peter Carrellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09535218286799156659noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10326675.post-38866613009293782112010-05-12T13:51:45.093-04:002010-05-12T13:51:45.093-04:00Bishop Winston was at our Diocesan Convocation in ...Bishop Winston was at our Diocesan Convocation in 2009. The people of Polynesia have been given a very good and solid leader. Here in Hawai'i we rejoice with our fellow Pacific Islander brothers and sisters and congratulate Bishop Winston.

Father Bill Albinger
Lahaina, MauiFr.
