It's been 24 days and no word from Nigeria

Today is my birthday. I have been counting the years. It's now 66.

So for the moment in a fit of birthday exhuberance I will count some not so happy days:

It is now 24 days since the Anglican Church of Canada spoke out against the Church of Nigeria's stance re the Nigerian bill criminalizing association in support of gay and lesbian persons and / or the notion of gay marriage. There has been no word from Nigeria. Silence.

It has been 13 days since anything at all has been posted on the Church of Nigeria web site. The current latest news was on March 8, under the strangely wonderful title,
"Anglican Women at it again: ‘War against Nakedness': Mothers pledge their commitment to eradicate indecent dressing,"

perhaps a fine article on a real problem, but still perhaps something might have been said in response to the Bishops.

I will not speak to the ongoing matter of silence in other quarters. The question is squarely to the Archbishop of Nigeria. Will he respond to the Canadian Bishops or no?

  1. Happy birthday, my longtime good friend!

Do you really expect that Nigeria will respond with anything useful to a criticism of their position on the same-sex issue?

I will be glad to watch GC disinterestedly and from afar--I leave North America the day before the games begin.

    Birthday hugs to you!
