Posted today on the Anglican Communion News Service is the following: " One of the best ways to help Africa is to stop the Arms Trade"
Just about the time I was in a funk about the possibility of primate leaders saying or doing something about the level of imperial violence, the war, etc, along come the Scots. While the title of the article suggests the action is primarily about Africa and the Arms Trade, the body of the text indicates that the protest is about BOTH the general Arms Trade and the use of nuclear armaments. The Scottish Episcopal Church has been long involved in actions against the use of nuclear weapons.
The article is not long, but the reach is. God bless them!
It is not that they made a statement but they do it so simply. The following convicts me to think seriously of increasing my awareness of war and my Christian obligation to be a peacemaker. "We have discovered the will to prevent smoking from ruining the lives of non-smokers by ending smoking in public areas; when will the world’s governments have the same will to prevent the arms trade from causing suffering to hundreds and thousands of people around the world?"
ReplyDeleteThank you for bringng this to light.
And who are the biggest dealers in arms?
