The Lord's Table revisited.

The posting from the Church of Nigeria was pasted into my last blog, you can see that HERE. The title was

SITTING AT THE LORD'S TABLE: ,Statement from Global South Primates

The title is now stated this way:

SITTING AT THE LORD'S TABLE: Primates explain absence at Holy Eucharist

It would appear that someone got to the editor and explained that the Global South Primates (as a group) did not make a statement, nor did the GS Steering Committee.

The second title reflects my earlier observations.

The Primates who have notably engaged in ministry in a jurisdiction not their own were absent from the Holy Eucharist.

This is an entirely different story.

  1. I suspect this change in the heading may have more to do with the fact that the Primates were not supposed to be releasing statements or otherwise commenting on the meeting until after it was over. The rather late revision to the title in no way changes the fact that a statement was released, but it does seem to soften the fact that it is directly from the Primates by a tad.

  2. Mark,
After reading your comments I now understand their reasoning for staying away (based on the Scripture that they cite):

They are all Primates who have crossed borders, and therefore are not in compliance with the Windsor Report. Therefore, as they acknowledge themselves to be in a state of sin unreconciled to their brother and sister Primates, they have withdrawn from the Sacrament until such time as they are able to make appropriate penance and reconcile.

OK... Comments, gripes, etc welcomed, but with some cautions and one rule:
