What did the letter say?

Lest we forget: The Archbishop of Canterbury wrote the Archbishop of Nigeria regarding the installation of Bishop Martyn Minns. We only have the reference of others as to the content of that letter.

As I have suggested earlier, if Canterbury were really interested in pressing Nigeria to cease and desist, the letter would have been made public immediately. Of course privacy of communication is valuable, but in this case it would seem that a public letter requiring a timely public response would have been in order.

Nigeria's response to Canterbury (no matter the author) was immediately made public.

What is needed now is to know what Canterbury wrote. Why? Because only then can we know (i) how strong a case was made for not proceeding with the Installation, (ii) whether or not Nigeria in any way actually responded to the concerns of Canterbury, and (iii) if there are any hints in Canterbury's letter of a sense of what happens next.

So, where is the letter?

  1. How odd that Wycliffe Hall, Southwest and Trinity, are both experiencing some instability at the same time. For different reasons of course. But still -hmmn.

  2. I don't think the ABC particularly wanted a showdown with Akinola at this time. He has never been confrontational in that way. Why would he start now unless he was ready to go toe to toe with Akinola, and I doubt he ever will be. He probably said he was "disappointed" that Akinola was going forward.
