The Guts of the Matter.

Tobias Haller is a fine observer of the scene in Anglican Land and has just posted the best response to the question of just what the Archbishop of Canterbury does that gets various folk to believe that he agreed to, affirmed, suggested, or otherwise supported particular causes, ideas or points of view.

On his blog, In a Godward Direction, he posted an article, "The Entrails of Primates." Go read it! It is a quite fine post, right up there with his seminal "A Daft Anglican Covenant."

In more difficult times Tobias would have been taken out, drawn and quartered with his innards fed to crows, etc, for such awful puns as the footnotes for "castanets" as "in Galilee." In these more gracious times he will simply be forced to spend time with Tom Woodward, whose tendency to pun has driven otherwise quite sane people to madness. Then again we could send the lot of them over to the Mad Priest for counseling.

  2. Thank you, Mark. While it is true that the pun is the lowest form of humor, it might actually be the highest form of seriousness. After all, in one sense, the Incarnation itself is a cosmic pun. Thought for the season...

  3. Oh, I don't know that I'm send them to MadPriest for counseling; they're apt to start seeing images of the Blessed Virgin Mary on plates of dried spaghetti.
