Bishop Iker Expresses Solidarity with the Malcontents.

Bishop Iker of Fort Worth. as reported over in Stand Firm today, announced that he was going to the Global Anglican Future Conference for sure, and maybe, maybe not to Lambeth.

About GAFCON he said, "“I want to demonstrate my solidarity with the Bishops of the Global South and to stand with them as we seek a positive way forward for the mission of the Anglican Communion during this time of dissension."

Of course the Bishops of the Global South is a slippery collection these days. The wide range of bishops who attended the first Global South gathering, and the smaller group that attended the Second, and even smaller group that attended the third are not in fact the group that are producing GAFCON.

Bishop Iker is demonstrating his solidarity with those bishops who have determined that they are not going to Lambeth, are not interested in further interaction with The Episcopal Church, the Anglican Church of Canada and perhaps even The Church of England. That is not the Global South. That is the bible-belt of Africa, the evangelical Southern Cone, a bit of Austrailia and separatists friends in the US and Canada.

Bishop Iker is in solidarity with the discontented - the Anglican malcontents. Solidarity is not all it is cracked up to be sometimes.

  1. While I have little regard for Bishop Iker's views and less for his separatist behavior, I do pray for his daughter who is gravely ill and encourage others to so also.
