Start the Press! (small bragging rights.)

Preludium is a blog, but it is also a print shack. On the left sidebar are links to a video on the Press and in the upper left hand corner a picture of the shack itself. In addition to letter press work I have done a variety of ink and paper things. It beats worrying about the Anglican Communion all the time! On the left and right are examples of press and paper work.

The letter press is a Golding Pearl Press #3. I have just acquired a small etching /engraving press and am now trying my hand at engraving small copper and aluminum plates. The art ain't much and I am still learning to
apply ink and use just the right pressure, but I'm please to get anything off the press.

Here is a picture of the press:

Here are my first two engravings:

OK....back to work.

  1. That's pretty neat. In my high school days, I worked for a printer that also had some ancient letter presses. (I was confined to these, of course, not being given the glory of the offset presses.) It's satisfying work, in its own unique way.

  2. The fotos inside always make the shack look more spacious than the foto of the whole thing from the outside!

Fun stuff. I played around with typesetting and hand presses in high school.

  4. That's wonderful! Would you take "free help" for a weekend just to see it all work up close and personal? (only just kinda sorta kidding!)

  6. Father Mark,
Very Nice. I used to do linoleum block engravings many moons ago. It's amazing how much "pre-production work" goes into what looks like an otherwise "simple" engraving.

    Blessings...
