About Communion: What She (Elizabeth Kaeton) said.

Elizabeth Kaeton just posted a wonderful set of reasons to belong to something called the Anglican Communion, with the accent on communion. Titled, "My (not quite but almost) 39 Articles of Faith," she reminds us again of what we can be as a communion.

Read it HERE.

Thanks Elizabeth!

  1. From reading Ms. Kaeton's views, I am struck by this:

"I believe in a communion where my passionately held beliefs about..."

That's the sum of it. ME, MY, MINE are the problem with this small yet wealthy piece of the Anglican Communion called TEC. Our culture (and Church) codifies knowledge and belief as worthy only after the final imprint of "ME" has been attached to make it authoritative.

    Arrogant.

  2. Thank you, Mark. It may well be time to start an "I believe" column. I'm thinking of the wonderful column in "Progressive Christian" about what we who claim the title really believe. It's a fascinating read.

  3. Allen:

If you are going to quote someone, please quote that person's comment in its entirety, to wit (emphasis mine):

I believe in a communion where my passionately held beliefs about who God is and why Jesus came among us and how the Holy Spirit works in our lives can be held in healthy, respectful tension with those whose equally passionate beliefs about the persons of the Trinity differ sharply from mine.

In other words, this time mine, she wants a church in which our unity in Christ, as children of God, trumps any issues that would otherwise divide us. Personally, I hope for that is well. Or would you prefer that everyone think the same things about everything? Where would one draw the line?

  4. may Ms Keaton's articles of belief be consigned to the dust bin of history just as ECUSA has consigned the real articles. Her emphasis on belief in a communion is troubling since it seems to take primacy in belief in our Lord Jesus Christ, and He is only mentioned in a secondary kind of way.

  5. Brava Mother Kaeton, you brave soul. Keep preaching it!

You know it because you've lived it!
