All I want for Christmas is two tablets in the morning.

The many readers of Preludium (and I know you are out there) may be wondering just what I want for Christmas. Aside from World Peace, what I really really want is the two Tablets of the Commandments used by Charlton Heston in The Ten Commandments.

They are pictured here.

On sale on EBay they came to my attention by way of Titus One Nine which shows that it is important to look at T19 postings if for no other reasons than one's Christmas list.

E Bay describes the set thusly: "These Tablets retain the beautiful red and black-speckled patina of the Sinai-inspired granite, with translucent white engraved letters and nearly pristine edges. Four small holes are on the verso of one of the tablets from mounting. Overall the Tablets remain in exceptional condition." "...the actual prop Tablets were created by Paramount Studios scenic artist A.J. Ciraolo using thick, richly hewn fiberglass with hand-applied paint speckling to resemble the red granite of Mount Sinai."

Now I want to make it clear, I want these, the genuine faux tablets, held in the very hands of the late C. Heston. The old ones are probably dust by now and were given to breaking when thrown. This stuff is as good as it gets. It's hard to dent them, much less break them.

Take two of these suckers in the morning and digest the words and good by to any worries of being acceptable to God.

The winning bidder should know that I would be glad to take them earlier. But Christmas at the latest, please, please.

Thank you.

  2. "...thick, richly-hewn fiberglass..."

What a fabulous phrase! Not quite "rich Corinthian leather" but pretty darn close. :)

Hope they appear 'neath the Christmas tree, Mark!

Have you found anything online proving that someone named A. J. Ciraolo made these?

    I can't.
