More on the "When" of the GAFCON Primates Council Communique.

David Virtue today (Wednesday) stated that the GAFCON Primates Council will make a statement on Thursday, noon (I suppose local time in England.)

Here is the note:

"LONDON: Global South (GAFCON) Primates Communique

VOL has learned that a statement from the Global South (GAFCON) Primates will be made available tomorrow noon.

Archbishop Peter Jensen has e-mailed a key media person to say that there are some 'technical' hick-ups remaining but that they will continue as they started in Jerusalem."

"Technical hick-ups" sounds possibly interesting.... in the past such technical problems have included getting Primates to sign off on statements prior to publication. Most recently the "Statement at the Lambeth Conference 2008" was published with the promise of a growing list of signatures. Some appeared and then were removed leaving only Primates signatures. Perhaps the Primates Council is working on just who is a GAFCON Primate as opposed to say, a Global South Primate.

In any event it will be interesting to see just exactly who signs on. Will it be the same group that signed the Statement at the Lambeth Conference 2008, or will it be the group that constituted the core group of the GAFCON Primates Council? We may recall that the Primates Council was looking for more Primates to sign on. Of course signing on will mean being willing to recognized a new improved North American Province, a Province of the GAFCON Anglican Alliance of new improved blah, blah, blah.

But perhaps the "technical" hick-ups includes some matters that are not just about signatures, but also about substance. Archbishop Jensen seems to be indicating that in his reassurance that "they will continue as they started in Jerusalem." Meaning I suppose that there may have been a bit of a struggle at the meeting to rethink the Jerusalem Statement. Well the hick-ups seem to have been overcome.

Who knows. We will soon, I suspect.

  3. Are "Technical hick-ups" rural electricians? Or is it the past tense of "technical hook-ups" I hicked up yer teevee, Mr. Virtooo?

  4. Mr Virtue explains the delay in the publication of the statement on there being "a kind of transition going on, from a wide and inclusive leadership group ...... to a smaller, more formal group of Primates". Wonder who, other than Jensen, will make the inner circle.

  5. Isn't the correct spelling "hiccup" in the US and "hiccough" in the civilized world?

  8. Daved - perhaps I should have said English -speaking civilization. I'm just a snarky Canadian - which is NOT a contradiction in terms.

Fred - I am unaware of any convention of accountants signing their names with dollar signs, but if you feel moved to start one, feel free.
