Of Cabbages and Kings, of shields and other things.

Readers with discerning eyes have pointed out:

(i) The Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh (the one that Moderator Duncan and others left) has the diocesan shield on its web page masthead, as at the right.

The group that has left that also calls itself the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh, but a different website, does not have the shield.

(ii) The deposed bishop of Pittsburgh, Robert Duncan, is still listed on the Anglican Communion web pages as the bishop of Pittsburgh, to wit:

Provincial Directory: Pittsburgh

Diocese: Pittsburgh
Province: Province III
Position: Bishop of Pittsburgh
Name: The Rt Revd Robert William Duncan
Address: 535 Smithfield Street , Suite 900 , Pittsburgh , PA , 15222-2467 , USA
Office: +1 412 281 6131
Fax: +1 412 471 5591
Email: Click for email
Web: www.pgh.anglican.org/

Note the web address has been updated to reflect the legitimate Diocese of Pittsburgh (post Duncan.) If you click on the email it seems to go to duncan@pgh.anglican.org. Who knows who picks up mail there?

Very soon after Bishop Schofield was deposed his name was taken off the Anglican Communion website. It now lists Bishop Jerry Lamb as Provisional Bishop. The AC Office has been careful to update such matters in the past, why not now?

Part of this may be because of a shake-up in the communications office for the Anglican Communion. Part may be because there has been a lot on the minds of the bureaucracy these days, what with shortfalls in Lambeth funding, problems around the Communion which seems unwilling from any corner to pay close attention to the moratoria suggested by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

But perhaps the dragging of feet is due to the fact that the Archbishop of Canterbury received Moderator Duncan as Bishop Duncan and perhaps finds it useful not to "recognize" the deposition as a reality.

In any event, cabbages and kings can find that their heads roll, and shields come down and so do web pages. When the dust settles, the Archbishop needs to pull himself together and realize that there is no unity in the Moderator's long term plans, but rather the dissolution of the Anglican Communion.

Yeah- he should ask TEC all about how to forge unity in the AC, right?
