The Friends of Jake posted this from Keith Olbermann on Prop 8. One of the most powerful statements on why we should all support gay marriage.
Thanks to Keith, to Jake's Friends, and to the witness of all our brothers and sisters who are working to make justice on this and many issues work in America, particularly Susan Russell.
Here on Preludium most of the work is about the future of Anglicanism, the Episcopal Church, and other matters of some merit. Its hard to stay focused on these, for while they are of some merit they pale by comparison to the merit of greater tasks. So the gaze turns to what others are doing to mend the greater fabric, and then with renewed hope (having seen that work) return to focus again on things in Anglican land. We all benefit from the struggle for justice wherever it takes place, even we in Anglican-land.
That anyone's marriage or relationship is up for a vote is a bitter and absurd injustice.
ReplyDeleteAnd to those who support this legislation, I demand that yours be put up for a vote.
Damn, he's good!
ReplyDeleteVery powerful, esp. the legal history on miscegination and slavery.
ReplyDeleteYou know I was thinking as I watched that... First, there was Murrow who helped to bring down McCarthy. Next, there was Cronkite who helped America to see the folly of Viet Nam. Now, we have Mr. Olberman. I tell you, I truly wish I was in a position to find a job in ECUSA. Perhaps I'll be able to come back down after the spring; things look like they might just get better if we all pitch in.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the hat-tip, Mark.
ReplyDeleteFor those who want to join their voice to this movement, Nov 15th is a national day of peaceful rallies for gay rights. Find your state here at jointheimpact.wetpaint.com (Also jointheimpact.com).
