Thanks to TitusOneNine: Respite.

TitusOneNine is a must read daily.  Kendall Harmon has many helpers on this blog and while it leans considerably to the conservative side it often takes up issues that bloggers across the board avoid.  Someone in the T19 crowd is on the case about important issues of war and economics and T19 is the only  Episcopal / Anglican blogspace where I can find interesting links on matters of the war in Iraq.

And on rare occasions there is the priceless gift of humor.  For all those Anglicans just waiting for the proper use of Anglican Chant in the secular world, here is the link from T19. Thank you, thank you. A smile on a winter day.

  1. Love it. I do not know if you have heard the 1973 recording of members of St John's Cathedral Choir (Brisbane) performing Alan Stocks' Australian Customs and Quarantine Regulations in the style of an Anglican psalm chant. It is on a CD set 'The Wagner rinse Cycle' which I own but is no longer available

  2. This is the recording made in the late 60s by a group called The Mastersingers. I still have the 45 somewhere among my old black discs. There was also a similar setting of the Highway Code (rules of the road in the UK) which was similarly hilarious. I suspect there could still be a copyright issue, though...

  3. The Highway Code was actually done in Gilbert & Sullivan patter-song style, not Anglican chant, and was the "B" side of the 45 with the Weather Report.

  4. In graduate school, a friend of mine discovered that Anglican Chant was the only successful means of setting the poetry of Ogden Nash to music. We performed a setting of his, though not so well as the group here.

  5. The Mastersingers' recording of the Highway Code is indeed in Anglican chant, not G&S patter. It is also on You Tube here. with accompanying slide show:
