Episcopal Cafe says, "Welcome back, Bishop Herzog." Read it and rejoice. I have a good friend whose years in the Diocese of Albany formed his Anglo-Catholic soul in profound ways, and to all our benefit. It is good news indeed that Bishop Herzog has joined The Episcopal Church and the Diocese again.
Lest the absence of comments on this post be mistaken for universal applause, my take on Bp. Herzog's return to TEC differs from yours.
ReplyDeleteI'm puzzled by it. I thought Bp. Dan's withdrawal, and Bp. Bena's, showed integrity, for they were clearly at odds with the national Church. Bp. Bena still is and makes no secret of it.
So what has changed for Albany's former Diocesan in the last three years? The Episcopal Church is, if anything, more determinedly progressive today than it was when he left it. Has the RCC disappointed him in some way?
Absent some idea of the why of it, I have to view +Herzog's reappearance with more curiosity than enthusiasm. Will it be good for Bp. Love? Probably. For the Diocese of Albany? For TEC? We shall see.
