Eat Your Heart Out...

In the midst of really serious stuff we at Preludium are not adverse to receiving gifts.

And what better a set of cards than this nifty-difty set of "Mao Ze Dong and International Friends" playing cards?  Each card has a different photo of the late Chairman and some notable friend.

As the evil mother in The Manchurian Candidate said, "why don't you pass the time playing a game of Solitaire?" Indeed. I can hardly wait!

I recognized some...here is Mao with Ho Chi Minh.

But who is this guy?

Well, hours of conversation starters and plenty of time to be overcome by Mao's mug. My friends will be jealous.

This was a gift from friend Chris Brennan Lee who gave it to me with glee, claiming that the moment she laid eyes on them in China she figured I needed to have them. How right she was.

OK...now back to work.

  1. I hear tell that the souvenir shop attached to Mao's mausoleum in Beijing is world headquarters for Mao kitsch, including a Mao watch that plays "The East Is Red" for its alarm.

  2. Am I wrong to place Mao in the same category of butchers as Hitler and Stalin?
