[September 21, 2010] The House of Bishop of The Episcopal Church, meeting in Phoenix, AZ, approved the following resolution:
Mind of the House Resolution:
Appeal for the Rebuilding of The Episcopal Church of Haiti
Resolved, that the House of Bishop receives gratefully the draft plans for a $10 million appeal for the initial “Rebuilding of the Diocese of Haiti” (L’Eglise Episcopale d’Haiti) as developed in response to The Episcopal Church’s Executive Council resolution on rebuilding the Diocese of Haiti (February 2010); and be it further
Resolved, that we the bishops of The Episcopal Church commit ourselves to, and call upon our dioceses to participate fully in, the Haiti Appeal initiated by the Executive Council in consultation with L’Eglise Episcopale d’Haiti.

I'd believe it if those Bishops whose total annual remunerations are greater than (say) Eighty thousand dollars would skim the excess and give it to the poor.
ReplyDeleteI'd believe it even more if the HOB published two "league tables.
The first would be a table of total compensation (salary/pension/health/travel/expenses) for each bishop.
The second would be a table of the personal donations from each Bishop towards Haitian relief.

ReplyDeleteCompletely off topic but of vital importance:
Please discuss with all the Executive Council the issue of St. Mark's Chapel contained in the charges leveled by the Episcopal Forum from the diocese of South Carolina. Clearly the bishop is trying to eliminate that small but vibrant stronghold for the Episcopal Church in the US from within the diocese. And clearly has been put in grave jeopardy by the bishop and in need of our protection.
