Thinking of and praying for friends in New Zealand

Reports of a major earthquake in New Zealand, with its center near Christ Church. Time to remember in our prayers and our support the people of the Church and Nation of New Zealand.

  1. I am very concerned for my friends in Christchurch. I hope that Fr. Carrell and others are okay. The damage to structures appears to be significant; the Anglican cathedral has lost its spire, and there is other major damage to the nave. Does anyone know about a fund to help our friends rebuild the cathedral and churches damaged by the quake?

  2. Thanks for concern! I and family are well. But many families will be mourning, and others anxiously waiting for news of loved ones buried in rubble.

  4. The community over at Mad Priest's place are relieved to hear from Fr. Carrell and his family. Candles are lit all over the place as our prayers are lifted up for those who still wait, for those who have died or are injured or homeless, and in thanks for those who are safe.

  5. Continued prayers. Civil authorities believe that there are 16 to twenty bodies in the rubble of the Cathedral's fallen belltower. The church was a major tourist attraction in the city center. These folks were believed to be touring the tower at the moment of the quake.

RIP presently unknown brothers and sisters. Fights of angels sing you to your rest and may light perpetual shine upon you.

Viewing the photos of the devastation it is remarkable how many "modern" building totally failed. There could be many of the 300+ missing in their rubble. The new city scape that will rise in the future will have learned hard lessons from this catastrophe as stronger building codes hopefully prevail.

  6. Mother Earth is shaking and her children are dying.

Prayers for our sisters and brothers in New Zealand.
