It’s a busy life

(Readers of Preludium will recall that Anne, the sainted mother, occasionally checks in with the health report, mostly to inform us of possible end time activities. Like the prediction of the Rapture she has so far missed by a good bit. One day she will be right. Meanwhile she is full of reflective humor. Here is a poem based on an Anne report.)

 “It’s a busy life
When you have boils.”
That’s the phone report
From Anne the sainted mother.

“Ain’t it the truth!” I say,
And we both laugh.

She has the patience of Job
Who was only impatient with his friends
Who kept insisting
He must have done wrong
Or at least must be deserving of boils,
And with God.

 Anne and Job, they witness:
“It’s a busy life
when you have boils.”
“Ain’t it the truth!”

Busy, but not without its moments.

There is time to demand justice from God,
Still time to find humor
And not just impending doom
In the discomforts of old age.

Still time in the house of boils
to really know the nurse,
As a friend and not a stranger,
And death a companion,
Who will be welcomed soon,
but not today.

Today , it’s a busy life.
