Katrina still has the power to exhaust those who fight to keep New Orleans alive and who serve the people.

Over on Wounded Bird the sad news reported in the Times-Picayune has been published for all of us in Anglican blog-land.

Fr. Jerry Kramer of the Church of the Annunciation has been exhausted in the fight and is stepping down. Wounded Bird writes gracefully about him and his ministry.

On reading the news I thought of three things. I don't know Jerry, but he is what I always hoped we would all be -working his heart out and then knowing when he had done what he could do. Remember too that the Bishop of Louisiana Bishop Charles Jenkins also found it necessary to put the cost on the table and admit exhaustion in the work. And then I recalled too that years ago at the Church of the Annunciation my parents were married. Easter Day, between services. They were two of the thousands and thousands of recipients of the pastoral care that church, its clergy and the diocese have provided over the years.

We in some way are all connected by the Saints, living and dead.

  1. Ah, Katrina has exhausted many.

So your parents were married at Annunciation. We are, indeed, all connected by the saints amongst us.

  2. I know exactly what both have been going through. Add one more year to Katrina and you have Charley, Frances and Jean, all devestated Southwest Florida. We are still struggeling 5 years after Charley made a direct hit on Good Shepherd, Punta Gorda and many of us are exhausted. The physical rebuilding continues but the emotional rebuilding has yet to begin for many of us.
