Episcopal Cafe notes that Fortune (the mag, rather than the really really powerful lady Fortune) lists Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori as "a powerful female in the category of religion." Here is a quote from her from Fortune, by way of the Cafe"
"As a church in a rapidly evolving society, we have to be more nimble. .
. . We benefit a great deal in the church from deadlines and
benchmarks. When you think in an eternal time frame, the church is not
good at doing that. . . . If we don't measure things or look at the
calendar, we have a tendency to let things slide and say, 'Tomorrow is
soon enough,' or, 'Eternity is soon enough.' It's not. It's not. We've
got work to do in this life."
Nimble, agile, ready in every moment for the tasks we are given... and also ready to dance, and walk, and even ready to know when to be still. "We've got work to do in this life." And sufficient for the day is the evil thereof.
AMEN, Katharine!
Nimble brains in the West, Clogged ears in the Global South.
ReplyDeleteIf true, Leonardo, it's only because the wealthy West is SUPPLYING them the ear-wax (and has been, for centuries. First, to prevent indigenous peoples from listening to their OWN spirituality!)
ReplyDeleteFirst, to prevent indigenous peoples from listening to their OWN spirituality!¨
ReplyDeleteNot around here. The ¨Westerners¨ didn´t get away with stopping ¨the indigenous spirituality¨...the place is thick with religious duplicity (as it is in the Caribbean, Africa and Asia)...however the fundamentalist Christians are adding a third ¨clog¨ to the works/¨listening process¨...it´s called ACTIVE anti-LGBTI demonizing, persecution and outcasting.
